SNAPCHAT FOR PC: Who knew that one day I would spend half of my life scrolling through pictures of myself I’d taken on Snapchat with dog ears and a cute button nose.
I’m not sure what this says about the current state of my life but whatever it does say is reflected in houses all over the world. Snapchat really has become ubiquitous.
WHAT DOES IT DO AND WHY SHOULD I CARE?
You know an app has hit the big time when companies start to see the potential for advertising on it.
Sponsored stories, filters and content have been added to the same simple architecture that has remained unshakeably popular for a few years now.
But what is Snapchat and why should I care?
Unlike Facebook or Instagram where anything you shared was viewable forever and slowly built up a story/profile that people could tune into whenever they wanted, Snapchat is all about ‘now’.
When you send a snap to somebody they can view it for just a few seconds before it disappears forever.
This intriguing take on photo sharing gives a sense of exclusivity to every ‘snap’ and has spawned a whole new way people can send inappropriate pictures to one another.
But whilst Snapchats unique appeal is great, it was also limited until the additional of other features, Snapchat stories mean that you can share temporary chapters of your day with friends andSnapchatfilters mean you can instantly add sunglasses, rabbit ears and sexy lighting to your pictures in real time.
These filters definitely gave Snapchat an edge and novelty value but the real genius is the combination of advertising and sponsored filters that mean there is always something new to play with.
However, Snapchat is a mobile only app so if you want to download Tinder for PC then you’re going to need to get hold of an Android emulator!
SO, HOW DO I GET SNAPCHAT ON MY PC?
Snapchat is only available for Android and iOS which feels kind of crazy given the opportunities a larger screen could offer.
However, using Snapchat on your PC is actually really easy but you do need an Android emulator for PC.
To go fast and fullscreen with an Android emulator is basically like running Android on your computer, with access to all of your phones pictures, videos, and other documents as well as every single one of the apps and games in the Android store. It’s amazing!
Well, that is if you use the right emulator.
We’d recommend BlueStacks, which you can download here
BlueStacks is a smart and responsive Android emulator for PC. It has an attractive layout and cloud connectivity, which makes it possible to update your files in real time as well as text from your computer.
So when it comes to using Snapchat for PC, you’ll find that you can seamlessly jump between the work you’re doing on your computer, texting friends directly from your laptop and adding hilarious Snapchat filters in one swift motion!
BREAK DOWN THOSE FEATURES FOR ME!
Snapchat is a lot more versatile than it is given credit for and it carries a pretty ingenious user interface too.
You can add filters to your pictures, from simple insta-like filters that make you look better than in real life, to those unique filters that make you look like you’re living in an alternate reality where you were born a pirate or a princes or a…. you get the idea.
You can also draw/write directly onto your pictures and add a caption to complete the story.
And you’re given the option of how long your picture or video will be available to your recipient before being deleted.
Pictures/video can be sent directly to a friend or simply added to your ‘story’ for that day which means friends can find out what you’ve been doing in a few short clips. Unlike normal Snaps, ‘Snapchat stories’ are available for a full 24 hours before being deleted.
But Snapchat isn’t only for sharing with friends these days, if you click on ‘Discover’ you can dig into interesting content from a host of providers. Content is updated daily!
SO, WHAT’S THE CATCH?
Actually, Snapchat’s unique premise does have problems.
Firstly, it is totally self contained. What I mean by that is that you can’t share Snaps, they don’t remain anywhere and that means that whilst its fleeting nature is intriguing, to say the least it simply doesn’t fulfill the purpose of most other apps. In other words, as long as Snapchat survives it will never really compete with apps that offer longevity.
That being said, you don’t go to Snapchat for the same reasons you go to Instagram or Facebook.
Next is the unspoken issue. Snapchat for PC unique premise allows a false sense of ‘I can do what I want’.
That’s because it is secure with a lowercase s. True, whatever dumb stuff you send will not be available to the world once it is deleted..however, anybody can screengrab your snap and suddenly the idea of ‘self destruct’ photography doesn’t seem so safe anymore.
SO, SHOULD I GET SNAPCHAT FOR PC?
If you already use Snapchat then you really should try using it on your PC. As a photo sharing app it benefits form access to your laptop/computer webcam so you can take higher quality pictures as well as being able to browse through Snapchat full screen – how could you ever think photos aren’t better received at a larger and higher resolution scale?
Snapchat is fun and it also becomes a little more sociable on a laptop as you open yourself up for ‘Snap’ parties where you can use Snapchat as a kind of photo booth to share the stories of the night in a way you can’t do so easily with a mobile.
It’s a great app and thanks to shareit for PC you can get hold of it right away and take it fast and full screen.
